100% Pure New Zealand Merino Wool, with the wool grown on high country sheep farms around New Zealand and the yarn spun in a small boutique mill in Hawkes Bay. It is a soft 4 ply machine washable yarn perfect for knitting and weaving.
The yarn is named after the Mackenzie Basin, near Mt Cook and Lake Tekapo, where the Merino sheep thrive in the dry conditions and high altitude. The Basin was named in the 1850s after James MacKenzie a Scottish shepherd who with his faithful collie dog, Friday, herded stolen sheep into this empty and isolated basin.
